FATOUMATA DIABATE

Born in Mali, Fatoumata Diabaté began her career at the Audiovisual Training Center for Women (Promo-Femmes) in Bamako. In 2002, she joined the Bamako Photography Promotion Center (CFP), an institution dedicated to the professional development of Malian photographers. There, she refined her mastery of black-and-white analog photography.

Invited to numerous festivals, her work has been showcased in individual and group exhibitions in Mali, France, and internationally. She has received multiple awards, including the Africa Prize from the French Association for Artistic Action (AFAA), and the Jury Prize at the Boutographies Rencontres Photographiques in Montpellier in 2023. In 2020, she was selected for the Photography Residencies at Quai Branly. In 2021, she was invited to exhibit as part of Africa 2020, alongside the Africa-France Summit in Montpellier. In September 2022, she exhibited at the National Library of France (BnF) in Paris for the reopening of the Richelieu site.

Since 2017, she has been the president of the Association of Women Photographers and Artists of Mali (AFPAM). In August 2023, she took on the leadership of an African Cultural Space in Montpellier.

  Née au Mali, Fatoumata Diabaté a débuté sa carrière au Centre de Formation Audiovisuel Promo-Femmes de Bamako. En 2002, elle a rejoint le Centre de Promotion pour la Photographie de Bamako (CFP), visant à professionnaliser les photographes maliens. Là, elle a perfectionné sa maîtrise de la photographie argentique en noir et blanc.

  Invitée par de nombreux festivals, son travail a depuis été présenté dans plusieurs expositions collectives et individuelles au Mali, en France et à l’étranger. Elle a reçu de nombreuses récompenses, dont le Prix Afrique en 0. de l’Association française d’Action Artistique (AFAA), ainsi que le prestigieux Prix du Jury des Boutographies Rencontres Photographiques de Montpellier en 2023. Elle a également été lauréate en 2020 des Résidences Photographiques du Quai Branly. En 2021, elle a été invitée à exposer dans le cadre d’Africa 2020 en marge du sommet Afrique France de Montpellier. En septembre 2022, elle a exposé à la BnF à Paris dans le cadre de la réouverture du site Richelieu.

  Depuis 2017, elle préside l’Association des Femmes Photographes et Artistes du Mali (AFPAM). En août 2023, elle a pris en charge la gestion d’un Espace Culturel Africain à Montpellier.
